Hei Matau Necklace

Devocean’s Hei Matau Triple Barb design is derived from our Original Hei Matau necklace. The three barbs down the back of the fish hook represent the strength behind the structure and meaning of the hook.

Hei Matau design was made by the Maori to represent Strength and Safe Passage over water. The fish hook shape finds its origins in Maori legend that the North Island of New Zealand was once a huge fish that was caught by the great mariner Maui using only a woven line and a hook made from the jawbone of his grandmother.

The Hei Matau necklace represents Respect for the Ocean, and Safe Passage Over Water.
